no such thing as a coincidence

Today, the 12th of February, it's my last day at number 12.
I'm moving to my soul sister's room, which is also number 12.
On the 12th of January, I woke up at 12:12 and started this blog.
We were 12 at number 12 when we left 2012.

(I just realised this is the 12th post of the blog.)

"Mali-ko" is the name of the song and it means PEACE.

RIP Donald Byrd

"As we celebrate Dilla’s birthday, we are a bit stunned to learn of the passing of another Detroit legend; trumpeter, composer and all around genius Donald Byrd who perhaps more than any other figure, connected the roots of jazz to soul, funk, disco and hip-hop..."

J Dilla, the Greatest

"James DeWitt Yancey “came across like an angel on earth,” singer and songwriter Steve “Spacek” White told Fader magazine in 2006. Most people tend to speak of him this way. His contributions to music were indeed felt as angelic, no matter the alias—John Doe, MC Silk, Jay Dee, or J Dilla. But the James Yancey legacy is wide-ranging. What he contributed to the lives of others was duly as significant."

Today, the 7th of February, was J Dilla's Birthday. His close friend and collaborator, Karriem Riggins, played his tribute. Happy Birthday J Dilla, the Greatest.

Subtle Glimpses of Magic

The Dark Side of the Lens, by british surf photographer Mickey Smith.

"For fires of happiness and waves of gratitude,
for everything that brought us to that point on earth at that moment in time,
to do something worth remembering with a photograph or a scar.
I feel genuinely lucky and hand on heart say I love doing what I do.

If there's no future in it, this is a present worth remembering."

Happy Birthday King

The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral,
begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy.
Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it.
Through violence you may murder the liar,
but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth.
Through violence you may murder the hater,
but you do not murder hate.
In fact, violence merely increases hate.
So it goes.
Returning violence for violence multiplies violence.
adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.

Dr Martin Luther King, Jr

Melt a Weapon, Plant a Tree

"Palas Por Pistolas’ is a world-wide campaign to make communities safer. Our mission is achieved through only one very specific procedure, which is to turn weapons into shovels to plant trees.
For every weapon that is destroyed one tree is planted."

The project was initiated by the mexican artist Pedro Reyes, in collaboration with the Botanical Garden of Culiacán, a city in western Mexico, where the first campaign took place:
1527 guns were melted and made into 1527 shovels to plant 1527 trees.

The Beauty of Nothingness

The essence of your mind is intrinsically pure -
Pure means clear - VOID.
Alan Watts on Nothingness

"So, out of this void comes everything
and we're all in. What else could we be?"

The Beginning: Mathematics.

Today I woke up at 12:12 and it's the 12th.
It's funny, we were 12 at number 12 when we left 2012... True that.
It must mean something. The beginning of something. But that's everyday, anyway.

"Love is the first two steps, Knowledge and Wisdom coming together, it's 1 and 2, put them together you get 12 and the twelfth letter in the alphabet is L, which stands for LOVE.
If wisdom is like water, so is love."
